The term of intelligent networks is used in a variety of ways. In the context of energy policy, when it comes to the control of distributed energy utilities, in the construction of virtual power plants (Smart Grid) - in the field of Internet services, when it comes to the development of new services and the construction of broadband networks. We look at the "intelligence of networks" from the very beginning. Due to the construction of the passive infrastructure and early reflection in order to provide flexible services, be it for the general interest or the consumer society, maximum efficiency and lasting investment security are contingent on how the "cohesion" of infrastructure is considered. Network infrastructures are growing together, the evolution can be steered and accelerated. Therefore, we give no exhaustive definition of intelligent networks, but we are devoted to the goals of your organization, your network infrastructure and your customers in order to offer the highest intelligence under the circumstances given in the future.

IN (intelligent network)
The Intelligent Network (IN) is a network concept in which the switching controller is separate from the technical routing process. The aim of this concept is to provide an open platform for the development, deployment and management of services. The intelligent network has to be network -, service - and manufacturer- independent. These new services must be able to be quickly and independently implemented by the carrier network and they must have common protocols and interfaces. The service configurations are stored in a central database, accessible at any time and need not be implemented in all network components. Therefore, individual, customized services can be realized for a short time. The provision of a telecommunications service is controlled, decoupled by the physical switching network.

The aim is to better manage complex processes, to increase efficiency, to link consumption with production and thus to save resources so as to enable further new networked applications.
Smart grids start / end in sensors / actuators to which data output or input are aggregated over different communication channels, mostly broadband access technologies and open into the central platforms for storage or further processing via user-related services".
